Fear of the Unknown

In franchise consultant, life decisions

It's interesting to note that most people who investigate franchising never pull the trigger. The majority of people stop because of fear of the unknown. All the information that is out there about franchising is confusing and overwhelming, and it scares people. But for you, it's different; you have me as your guide. The chances of you following through with controlling your destiny have gone up about 25 percent because you know me!

Every person I have worked with over the past 16 years has had an anxiety attack as they went through the due diligence process of buying a franchise. I did too. We are taught to go to school and get a job and be happy with that.

We are not taught to buy a business…but that is where I come in.

I cannot guarantee that you will buy a franchise if we talk, but I do guarantee, or better than that, my promise to you is that you will be a franchise expert by the time you're finished with my due diligence program.

Even an MBA is only taught how to evaluate a business but not how to buy one. That's because certain parts of the process are emotional and can't be taught. But again, that's what I'm here to help with.

Over almost the past two decades of helping people through the franchise due diligence process, I have found seven distinct junctures in the process where anxiety rears its ugly head. I feel that if you know what emotions could come up for you, you'll be able to deal with it and move ahead with the investigation activities.

So, I call the anxiety or fear junctures, The seven potholes on the road to franchise freedom.

I wrote an article about it that was published in Entrepreneur magazine.

The Seven Potholes are simple and make common sense once you read them:

  1. Surprised by the franchises that match your goals
  2. Receiving the FDD
  3. Getting advice from third parties
  4. Calling Owners
  5. Getting financing
  6. Meeting the parents
  7. The 11th hour

7a. Getting a job offer (If you're laid off)

If you work with me, I am your coach, and I help you through the emotions. You don't need me, but I come free of charge. So, why not talk with me?

In the end, what you will find is that your final choice is not the choice between franchise "A" or franchise "B." The final decision is indeed the choice between Unhappiness or Uncertainty. Your Unhappiness typically lies within the status quo. Ya, know, I can take a risk because I gotta pay the bills.

One of my favorite quotes is: The Universe reveals its secrets to only those who follow their heart. I hope you gain the knowledge and courage to choose uncertainty one day because that's where magic happens.
